-clicking jaw when eating / opening mouth wide
      - occasional tension headaches ?

Her question was how is it possible to have auditory symptoms because of your jaw?

It's a very good question. No one knows really.

      With TMJ,
Your jaw joints and muscles get inflamed with putting pressure on your jaw through stress, jaw clenching etc,
Your jaw joints are right by your middle ear so presure can be put on your ear.
You might get jaw crunching ,over stretching your mouth by yawning or eating appes or popping or jaw pain when laughing or eating etc.
The jaw irritation is felt by your middle ear and can become inflamed too.
Sometimes you can have tingly sensations in your face..lots of love glynis

If you have TMJ you would benefit from a mouth guard.
You can get them in a clear rubber.
They go over your lower teeth and stop any jaw joint pressure .
Your dentist can make one or maxillofacial specialist...lots of love glynis

I have had T for over 10 years. I remember at first it was driving me mad but either a. It lessened in sound or b. I got used to it. It had not bothered me much in the last years except since 1 week ago. I came back from a relaxing vacation to being overwhelmingly stressed at work. I also suffer from reflux and had a habit of chewing gum incessantly (to ease throat discomfort) to the point that i would get jaw pain.. I did not put 2 and 2 together until seeing my ENT who said that my tinnitus getting aggravated and louder is the result of a. Stress and 2. Tmj.. She told me to stop chewing gum(i immediately did) and once the inflammation goes down, the T should subside (she gave me a few valium as well).. Its only been a week but of course the anxiety is not helping as i "wait" for it to go away. I had about a 6 hr reprieve from it a few days ago but then it came back & varies in intensity. Anyway just hoping that taking care of my jaw and stress will help.. I am trying to be optimistic but its hard.. I hate feeling sorry for myself and am trying to keep positive.. This is my first post and glad to have found some support!!

@Isabella 123 is there a way we could talk to your daughter? I have TMJ and I would be curious how she handled the ups and downs for such a long time.

Most ENTs don't know anything about TMJ so you need to see a neuromuscular Dentist or maxillofacial specialist.
There are many reason someone can have tinnitus and TMJ is one of them. The jaw and its muscles can pull on the inner and and nerves. Fixing the jaw issues can some times cure the tinnitus for these type of patients. If you have TMJ its worth getting it treated, there is a lot of damage TMJ can do to the head as well as teeth. not all Dentist are qualified to address this so see a neuromuscular Dentist or maxillofacial specialist.
