      hello everybody

I was just wondering does anybody else's tinnitus spike louder when their ear pops.

My ears have just randomly popped a few times the last 2 days and my tinnitus increases in sound which also seems a lot fuller ( the spike last about 10-15 mins) I get a sharp pain as well that only lasts a few seconds.

The sound is completely different to the usual hiss/high pitch I have.

My ears feel blocked and full sometimes and I’m terrified that the sudden spike will be permanent if it keeps popping.

It’s strange the way it spikes like that, I think it’s to do with the pressure release? I just get scared the spike will be permanent as it’s becomes really loud and full.

Sounds like you might have fluid in your eustachian tubes causing pressure on your eardrum, or because your tubes are not working right, the pressure is wrong creating your ear drum to be sucked in or pushed out which is causing the tinnitus. Im no doctor and thats a guess. Have you been to see an ENT/DR? some steroid nasal spray might sort it out.

I’ve been the doctors 3 times, she says my ears are fine and it will go away. She won’t send me to the ENT.
I’m going back the doctors in the week and I’m going to ask “firmly” lol to be sent the ENT as it’s been just over 2 months with this hell.

I’ve steamed my face with vix a few times this week and it seems to have cleared my stuffiness in my nose a bit, just scares me when it spikes.

Thanks for the info John Paul.

I bet it was. To be fair I hadn’t been the doctors in a while not since I had my tonsils out (which was 5 years ago) then I was there 3 times within the space of a month.
I’m hoping I get to the bottom of it as well.

Hope all is ok with you man and your T isn’t too hard to handle.

It is indeed, it’s hard to try and stay postive sometimes especially when it spikes. That’s why I like forums like this, they can help a bit.... speaking to people who are in the same boat as you.

Went for a meal yesterday and used these alpine plugs I got seemed to work and have given me a bit of a boost as I thought I would never socialise again (still not going to overdue it though as I still feel anxious)

hopefully it’ll get easier or it goes completely.

Yeah i got some of those alpine plugs, tbh i was shocked at how little they work compared to foam plugs but they are supposed to allow the sound fidelity to come through so its hard to tell. I went out for fish and chips last night at a local place, it was busy and i measured the dbs on a phone app, it was about 80db with kids yelling, so i deffo needed them. Im not sure you will need them though unless its noise induced T but it can't hurt. Yesterday i had to go on a 4 hour car journey, i wore plugs but it really didnt do my ears any good, i was so down about it i thought id probably reversed all the hard work id put in over the last 2 months, then i went for fish and chips but by the time i went to bed everything was calm and quiet again so i was happy. Its still there but its going back to some kind of trivial level that i think iv had for a while. Ill be happy if it just reduces a little bit more and maybe in a few years it might just go completely without me realising. just got to keep on keeping on.

What app do you use to measure DB?
I don’t think mine is noise induced as I’d listen to my music via earphones but not all that often and always in a low level. I’ll use my plugs If I go for a meal or a pub as I still get anxious a lot and worry if I’ll make things worse if don’t have them.
Yeah was just a temporary spike which is horrible, glad it didn’t last. All you can do is keep protecting your ears and try to stay postive which I know is a pain in the arse to do sometimes, and with any luck it lowers enough for you or even better it will go completely. Ye keep on keeping on.... like that saying man

Ps I’ve not had fish and chips in such a long time....... might get some tonight from the local chippy as I’ve been eating so good lately. Mushy peas and curry as well haha

Its called Sound Meter on android. Its free and pretty handy thing to have just to get a rough idea. The thing about sound is it all builds on top of one another so the more things going on the higher the Db. Yeah gotta treat y self sometimes, fish food is brain food after all. :D

Hi there, was just reading some threads about this. Did you find anything of those popping ears related to you T? Thing is mine pop evrytime I swallow or move my jaw. I only have T on my right ear with some hearing loss but both ears pop. I know I have fluid on mastoid area but ENT says it should fix on itself and im using nasal spray for almost two weeks already with no relief.

I’m the same expect it come and goes all the time. I do think it’s to do with the fluid and unfortunately my ENT appointment is months away so I’m stuck with it for now.
I do know fluid around the ears can take a few months to clear so hopefully once it’s cleared the popping and crackling will stop as well, could possibly stop the T as well once it cleared but there’s no guarantee with T.
Wish I could be of more help.

Sigh.. Thanks a lot though. Sucks that not only the T is bothering us. I don't know if this applies to us, but read somewhere ( and heard from my ENT's PA) that if that fluid doesn't go away within months as it should. A small procedure to drain the fluid should be done..

I’ve read bits about the procedure and don’t think it’s that bad tbh. Have you tried any decongestants? Or steaming your face/ear as well maybe with some tea tree oil? That could help you as well.m

@Jcb I've read about it too and its not bad, but not sure if it will help at all, still Doctors in the US (in my experience) are cautious about prescribing strong meds or doing this procedures, they leave it as last resource after a long time. I've tried strong decongestants along with face steaming with some herbs or vick vaporub, cardio exercise is supposed to help as well but i don't see any difference. I still have some time to wait so we will see, at the moment I am with a cold again :( so gotta see how my ears are after that.

Sorry to hear you’ve got a cold as I know that can amp things up. Keep up with the cardio just don’t overdo it haha it sounds like you’re doung everything you can. My popping and clicking comes and goes, at this moment it’s fine but yesterday it was so annoying as every time I swolled and even when I didn’t it would click/pop.
Hopefully after the fluid has come out of your ears everything will die back down.
