Hello! I have had severe hyperacusis, fans would send my tinnitus crazy and trains etc...And everything was amplified, including tinnitus...However, since I used keppra it's totally disappeared as has Vikings. Good luck people!

It works on the KV3.1 channels which makes sense why it can work to rid of us hyperacusis. As it works on the auditory processing, it can possibly restore it to normal function.

      Danny,

Please let us know the specifics of your usage:
      how many milligrams
      how many times per day
      how long total duration

Also, how long until you started to have improvement? Did it come on suddenly, or gradually.

My hyperacusis is killing me. I couldn't care less about the T at this point. I just want to be able to go out to eat in a restaurant or talk with my friends without cringing.

I'm on 500mg keppra twice a day. I take one in the afternoon and one at night.

This is great news. As another member asked how long from when you started keppra did the improvement In H happen?
Does anyone know if @Viking is still H free?

    10. @Danny Boy *if* I can get a doctor to script me this, I will try it.

Viking said he's completely h free as am I. I only took it for a few days. This drug works for sure.

Don't see why you wouldn't be able to get it, as it's given to babies from 1 month orally. Anyway, no more hypercusis is fabulous! I hated when fans used to make it go crazy!

That's great news as he has been off keppra for a couple of months now and you found relief after a few days. Looking forward to seeing if you experience the same lasting improvement!

This could save millions of lives! Hyperacusis can be far worse than tinnitus, so the word need to get out there! Doesn't anyone find it funny how they said they don't understand hyperacusis and couldn't cure it, yet there's a cure out there!? They supposably don't understand the mechanisms of how keppra works, so go figure.

One other question. You're taking Trobalt also, right? So is your opinion that the reduction in H is due to the Keppra mostly, or perhaps a combo?

Trobalt never eliminated hyperacusis. Keppra did though. Viking just took keppra on it's own, so must be keppra not trobalt.

Anyway, I just tried my white noise masker and the tinnitus never reacted to it, so I can confirm 100% hyperacusis is gone.

Oddly enough, Keppra can actually help with elevating mood. Anyway, you must keep on and on, this drug will cure you! I just know it! You can't live with hyperacusis for years on end, when all that suffering can end with a pill.

Still not sure if you had H at all. What you're describing isn't H but more like reactive T. And "severe" H? No, I don't believe you had that. Severe H is when ypu have LDL's of 60 and under. That means that you would be experiencing pain upon normal conversations, your own voice etc.

Reactive tinnitus is hyperacusis. Anyway, as I said before all sounds were amplified thus sounds hurt like hell. Hyperacusis is now cured in me, as is Vikings...Shouldn't everyone be like OMG! There's a cure to something incurable!?

I don't have hyperacusis but if this works for it the way it did for you and Viking... this shit should be getting tested asap.

Some people say that reactive tinnitus is hyperacusis but I disagree. My tinnitus can react and change whether noise is involved or not. I am not afraid of sounds and sounds alone rarely affect my T. I usually will have low T before but it increases and is usually loud at the conclusion. It is reacting to my physical activity but not necessarily due to sound intolerance.

I understand you are excited and this is great news, but lets not jump the gun here. A trial of 2 doesn't with good results does not mean it will be that way for everyone. Calling it a cure is a bit premature and may give people false hope even if the results are encouraging.

It is however a step in the right direction and I thank you for posting your update. Time will tell if this is a viable treatment or not and of course more subjects and testing.

My tinnitus went crazy on certain sounds, like fans, it would react and go eeeeeee but now after keppra, that's all gone. Also, it must've been hyperacusis, as all sounds were amplified and hurt, so now it's cured. As I said the science behind it makes perfect sense " Studies to date confirm the importance of Kv3 channels at all levels of the auditory pathway. Profiling of our lead compound shows it can modulate function in both brainstem and cortex". As you can see, it makes perfect sense for this to work for hyperacusis.
