Anyone believe that curing hearing loss would allow the brain to calm the hyperactive neurons that also cause other issues such as visual snow, essentially resolving issues that developed after tinnitus onset?

Yes it’s been getting worse lately, it’s driving me nuts much more than tinnitus and hyperacusis.

I absolutely believe there's a connection, i got tinnitus from hearing loss four months ago
and last month developed visual snow. I'm hoping if hearing is restored fixing the sensory connections it will let the brain rewire itself and fix both tinnitus and visual snow.

For a long time now (years) I've had visual snow. Relatively mild I'd say, and I only notice it occasionally.
However on this forum I read there MAY be a link between tinnitus and visual snow. This really bothered me for some reason, because tinnitus is a nightmare scenario for me, and I am OCD. I have only noticed my tinnitus recently and always check for it.

Now I see my visual snow everywhere when I know for a fact it hasn't got worse. Am I just in high alert and my brain is 'focusing' on it more? I need to calm down and just say 'its there, it doesn't really impact my life, learn to ignore it again'. But I am a panicker
I fear it'll annoy me forever. Anyone got any advice? I think I'm just stressing myself out but when you 'notice' you notice it all the time any advice is greatly appreciated.

Floaters and visual snow are completely different things, aren’t they?

Unlike tinnitus, visual snow is not a DCN issue but could involve related filtering constructs in the brain (thalamus is indicated in some studies).

Changes in visual or other sensory processing following tinnitus onset seems likely to be upstream neuroplasticity as the brain tries to make sense of new electrical pathways, but I don't think anyone understands this. Visual snow and tinnitus have a higher than average comorbidity rate, but I've never even seen research attempting to understand why.

Visual snow can be brought on by whiplash in some cases, I think.

We will be interviewing Visual Snow Initiative on the Tinnitus Talk Podcast!

We will be speaking to Sierra Domb and probably also one of the scientists linked to VSI.

We haven't set a date yet but hope to record in March at the latest.
