I have been diagnosed with catastrophic Tinnitus. I've been taking Lorazepam 6 mg, one 250 mg Magnesium and one 10 mg melatonin for great sleep for 6 years now every night!

It works for me very well. I also wake up without a fog and get 7-8 hours of rest unlike before taking these.

I’ve asked at least 4 different doctors of my long term concerns all of which responded independently that not getting sleep is far far more dangerous health wise then no sleep at all!

They provided no bad news on that combination of drugs.

Big fan here (and fellow guitar player) Mr. Di Meola!
Did your tinnitus slowly worsen over years of playing or were there acoustic incidents (loud gigs) that caused a noticeable rise in tinnitus volume?
Also, have you developed sensitivity to noise levels or certain sounds over time?
      Cheers,
      Sebastian

I've been diagnosed with severe T and I've been taking Lorazepam (.5mg) for about 6 years at night myself. I recently asked my GP if he would consider increasing the dosage (double) because I've been waking up to bad T unlike the past. He was hesitant at first but said he would do it. If nothing else works, increasing the dosage may be what I need to help lower it. Thanks for your post.

Does that combo prevent awakening tinnitus? Glad you found something that works for you.

I wonder if this was the 'real' Al Di Meola as he never came back.

in other shocking news, I am not actually the Mycenaean Greek syllabic script Linear B, the earliest attested form of the Greek language.

It might've very well been him. If you Google his name and tinnitus he suffers from it.

      More shocking news.

I grew up in Boston when Aerosmith came of age in the 70s.

Just thought you should know... Always enjoy your posts...

I am jealous you can use a chainsaw.

I am a sculptor deprived of power tools, even wood carving.
It would destroy my poor little ears.

      Take care.

@Daniel Lion I'm encouraged to see your tinnitus is still recent, took me 18 months to improve my perception... You still have time.
      Are you sleeping?

      Can you sculpt using clay?

Really sorry to hear that. For what it's worth you're only 2 years in and I was not comfortable with power tools at that point. I actually only discovered motorcycles and chainsaws after I was, respectively 4 and 9 years into my worsened tinnitus. "Art" for me for several years there was painting in a quiet room, or building dumb cat-based websites.

The only chainsaw I have is a Makita 38v LiON electric. It's "fine", I can fell and section 24" trees, and I managed to carve a cat with it. I can see that for real chopping, or easier carving, I'd want to get both an 18" bar gas saw and a little tiny chainsaw for precision work. I am not confident that I can handle a typical gas Stihl 18". Any idea how that compares loudness wise to a 16hp lawnmower?

6 mg seems very high... Did you have to increase the dosage over time? Does it lower your tinnitus?

      I can, thanks for asking.

I've had an awful week... I feel really low.
I am a different person post tinnitus and I accept that. Just struggling a lot now.
Like you Candy, I need some relief.
I usually can sleep. Last night, not very well.
I try and do enough exercise so that my body is tired.
I really want to take some valium but am avoiding that now...

Sorry for the bluesy post... Feeling down. Hope things get better for us all.

I think I'll be coming up on two years pretty soon.

My audiogram looks like a skislope, I am a candidate for hearing aids.

      @Daniel Lion
I had my 2 years anniversary of tinnitus in April, feeling low lately as well. Having to accept this is likely permanent. Afraid of it getting worse... hopefully it just stays as it is. Hate the person I am post tinnitus, I find it difficult to make changes and plan for events with other people, just wanting to be alone a lot as having to listen to long conversations above the sound of my tinnitus gets exhausting.

Just venting, I know there is nothing anyone can do.
