      5 + 1 * 10 = 5 + 10 = 15

      That's right @Nick07

      I did not see it was only one box of fries.
      I guess 15 is correct, then. 5 + 1*10.

      But why do I feel an urge to eat at McDonalds now?? I never do??

      drink = 10
      burger = 5
      fries = 2
      So a burger with a drink and fries = 10+5+2 = 17 (or way too many calories)

      It's 5+2•10. That equals 70.

      Oops, misread the multiplication. However, in math multiplication is always done before addition unless you put the addition operation in parentheses. So 5+2*10 = 5+(2*10) = 25. If you want to come up with 70, you have to write it (5+2)*10.

      I'm hungry...

      Based on the, ahem, "creative" responses in this thread, I would say that perhaps the medical community will potentially have a new tool at their disposal in the future for tinnitus diagnostics: rather than testing for hearing loss when a new tinnitus patient shows up at the clinic, your local ENT might want to administer a math test instead. At least, it seems there is a strong correlation between mediocre math skills and tinnitus (if the responses in this thread are anything to go by...).

      1st equation: 3x = 30, x = 10
      2nd equation: x + 2y = 20, y = 5
      3rd equation: y + 2z = 9, z = 2
      4th equation: y + z * x = ?, ? = 5 + 2*10 = 5+ 20 = 25

      Therefore: ? = 25

      You are wrong in your 4th equation, there is only one fries whereas in the 3rd there are two fries for each element. ;)

      I hear you (and I fully aware of the fact that there is only one box of french fries in the 4th equation)... But I would either go with my answer (the original one). Or simply state that set of equations cannot be solved. 2 boxes of french fries is a different variable to one box of french fries (consider it "chicken nuggets" - or whatever it is called). So essentially there is an unknown that cannot be solved for (perhaps that's why the title was written "math problem you will fail"). As I see it, anyway...

      3x=30, x=10 where x is the soda

      Let:
      s = soda
      b = burger
      f = fries

      Equation 1:
      s + s + s = 30
      3s = 30
      s = 30/3
      s = 10

      Equation 2:
      s + b + b = 20
      s + 2b = 20
      10 + 2b = 20
      2b = 20 - 10
      2b = 10
      b = 10/2
      b = 5

      Equation 3:
      b + 2f + 2f = 9
      b + 4f = 9
      5 + 4f = 9
      4f = 9 - 5
      4f = 4
      f = 4/4
      f = 1

      Solve:
      b + f x s = ?
      5 + 1 x 10
      5 + (1 x 10)
      5 + (10)
      5 + 10
      b + f x s = 15

      Are we sure that mathematics are safe for tinnitus?
      Somebody told me that if you have tinnitus, studying (university, learning a foreign language etc) is brain stress and can worsen your condition, cause using your brain is promoting plasticity. It's like the sore muscle from working out. Any papers on this? @Aaron123 ?

      But there is only one McDonalds fry so your last equation should be B(5)+ [ C (1) x A (10)] = 5 + ( 1 x 10) = 15
