Does anyone notice that T is much worse after a shower? (On a sidenote, I love that I don't hear my T while IN the shower.) My T is not related to hearing loss and I haven't been diagnosed with H, so I don't think it's the shower sound. Curious as to what could be the reason then. I normally take showers before bed, but with my T spike, I'm starting to think that's a poor idea. Thanks all!

      Hi Venusa,

Well, if you don't think your T is related to hearing loss... maybe blood circulation issues?... I've read that hot or cold showers cause blood to rush to all your body.

Any activity that cause my blood flow to rush (like exercise, stress, walking, running, laughing hard, talking fast) spikes my T for minutes sometimes hours.

I don't get bothered by it anymore, I just relax and let it settle.

      Hope you the best,
      Your friend,
      Johnny.

Showers didn't bother my T when I first got T. Until my jaw popped out and I have bad TMJ with pressure issues. Now showers really tick it off. It's gotten better. I think it could be circulation or ear pressure issues.

      Shower gives me anxiety

I am a bit afraid of the shower now. Dont worry I still wash, but for some reason taking a shower now gives me anxiety. Im sure its all related to my T.

      Kind Regards.

There are few threads about correlation between tinnitus and taking shower. Just type "shower" in the search window.

Okay, I have bern thinking this over and I wonder now...what does the origins of your tinnitus matter for anything?

If your body is injured, your body does not care HOW it happened, it just cares that it happened. Showers are loud. They make your T spike the same as those with acoustic trauma. I as a trauma sufferer should be careful of ototoxic medication the same way someone who got T from ototoxicity should be careful of loud noises.

The methods may be different but the result is the same.

I have no proof but no one has proof of the contrary either so.

Do you have TMJ induced tinnitus that cannot be cured? I am asking because I have it too and I cannot stand it.

I have had several ear specialists and audiologists tell me that it does not matter if hearing loss and tinnitus is caused by acoustic trauma, ototoxic medication or a virus. Other causes can matter because there are possible physical or mental concerns involved, such as hearing loss due to otosclerosis or tinnitus from severe anxiety.

But for those other three primary causes, it does not matter. Individuals with hearing damage from acoustic trauma do not have inner ear hair cells more likely to be damaged by loud noise than someone with ototoxic damage. Likewise, someone with acoustic trauma damage is not immune to damage from a virus.

Not sure. I had my jaw put back in place, but the ear pressure and Eustachian tube issues continue. Not to mention that it still locks and has noises like clicking and popping.

TMJ issues take a while to heal, so I'm still hopeful.

You can take baths instead of showers, and then just run the bathtub tap to rinse off.

      Resist the urge! Ha-ha.

So have you had your TMJ issues since having T or after?

It's the opposite for me, the hour or so after my shower is usually the quietest part of my day. I wear swimming ear plugs in the shower though.

I think that seems the way of it. Mine is bothered by showers.

Then my mom notices hers calming down and happy for a while.

I have read somewhere on a Danish page that it can be due to ear was build up. Not sure if it's right but it makes sense that the water from the shower would block your ears even further if there's already ear was blocking them.

Same here, and then it goes back down. Showers are actually pretty loud, it's a lot of noise.

Does your T stay the same after you get out or does it go back down? I have head T, but sometimes when I want to relax it goes up like it knows when I want to relax. I take 2 Tylenol pm, do a little deep breathing, shower, maybe it could be from meds late. I did have spike at night, maybe you can try changing your routine to confuse T routine.

Just wanted to add my experience. Showers make mine louder, much louder from 2 to 6-7. It can take hours, even days for it to calm down again.

I found that using earplugs stops that from happening.

The shower does not change my tinnitus. I tried earplugs in the shower, but it seemed just a loud as the water struck my head, and the occlusion effect.

I've started getting this and at the same time elsewhere my tinnitus is reacting to plastic bags being crunched up and from what I gather it's 'reactive tinnitus' or a subset of hyperacusis.

If anyone knows how to stop tinnitus reacting please say.

I cleaned my shower head with all the limescale that had built up. It made the shower sound a bit softer afterwards. Maybe that can help?
