      stress / loud noises
      I have had tinnitus for 5 mo nths now, been reading up on it, nooo need to worry, I was coping alright, nurse said don't worry about, holidays were here and all that, well...

      I thought mine was just regular normal tinnitus, or that it would calm down and be less severe, no.

      This is very severe tinnitus. I went to the ER twice after I could not sleep, my cardiovascular system is not liking the stress I'm in.

      It's been about 3 days now, I did attempt to sleep, but well, no, my system is rejecting this "symptom",
      so what can I possibly do, since doctors do little.

      I've read Xanax helps. Drinking alcohol did help, although the next day when I woke up I wasn't exactly feeling well, maybe that was too much.

      I hear you can go 11 days without sleep. Every time I "nearly" get into sleep, there's a twitch, or a bad convulsion, or a bad image in my head, I don't know how I wasn't worried that much before.

      What can the hospital even do, put me in a coma? That would be great.

      That was happening to me including seeing flashes of light and having weird nightmares but it subsided thankfully. This condition can be very disturbing for sure.

      I think there's an actual name to this. Many people experience this. I had it many times. It's normal and it's not related to tinnitus whatsoever.

      Same. I was a totally non anxious person before this who never ever slept poorly. Then T happened and the nightmares, limb jerking and even sleep paralysis flooded in. This noise is as bad as it gets and the mind cannot cope with it. Coma therapy has crossed my mind and I posted on it here. Would it work? Give the brain a chance to forget and calm itself. I would try anything as this is not a life but the world at large think we’re a pathetic joke......Only if and when this strikes them do they realise the horror.

      One week after my severe acoustic trauma struck me I developed twitching legs.
      They were kicking out in every direction.
      Total Hell on Fucking Earth !!!

      Luckily, after about a month, that symptom stopped altogether.
      The tinnitus of course has proved permanent.
      Just 2mg of Melatonin (Circadin) does look after my sleep by the way.

      It sounds like anxiety is keeping you up. Happened to me. couldn't sleep for 3 days, went to ER and took Ativan, slept for 12 hours. then couldn't sleep for another 3 days, had to take Ativan again, then couldn't sleep for another 3 days and another Ativan. Then I started taking natural remedies and I was able to finally able to sleep without Ativan.

      It's anxiety.

      Random images that 'you' i.e. your conscious mind don't imagine flash into your mind's eye and despite how non-threatening it is it causes a release of adrenaline i.e anxiety.

      @tamas,
      Try melatonin or a natural sleeping aid or sound playing at night.
      Chamomile tea can help.
      Sleeping tablets can help but for long term help a low antidepressant can help.
      Hope you sleep better tonight.

      love glynis

      What natural remedies ended up working well for you?

      Have you tried using masking? The sounds of crickets work well for high-pitched T. The idea is to give yourself something else to listen to, besides your T. At first, you will still be hearing and focusing on your T. But within 15 minutes, you ought to be able to start focusing more on the masking sound.

      Thank you guys for the supportive help, I did try masking, it did manage to work, by far the best masking for me is listening to DJ Yahel via PowerAMP application on Android (you can fine tune frequencies, I've always used that app).

      As well as even having a custom codec installed for sound quality boost, even with cheap headphones they do make a huge difference, but listening to headphones all the time is rough especially when you need to take care of people who have their own illnesses. I'm going to buy a bottle of wine and relax, I did get melatonin, and it does help, thank you.

      I'm really praying the symptoms subside as I had hypertension before this happened, I try not to let it affect me.

      I did manage to fall asleep somehow by miracle but woke up to some creditors calling, that is great. I have never valued regular sleep schedules or stress free life more than I do now.

      Hope this helps.

      I had a few episodes of seeing bright flashes of light, sleep paralysis, and brain zaps while I was asleep. They subsided over time.

      Don’t know what caused it. Best to just not think about it. I sleep like a baby usually now.

      @Kelvin

      Are you still taking the Tryptophan? I’m interested in starting it & looking for feedback. Thanks.
