I want to quit my job, some people I cannot stand anymore, and the work is boring too...

But I don't know what I can do after?

Because surely I cannot do anything noisy... So I am kind of stuck here... I work in an office now...

I would advise you not to change job just because of people. People can quit, or go in another department.. Maybe they won't be here next year.
If you want to quit because it is really boring you could find another job in another office no? You could also work from home. Some companies offer this kind of job. Or as a freelancer, but it really depends on what you are looking for.

I would first try to look for another job on the internet. Look what's out there and which ones you think are not too noisy. Make a list, then later sort the list for desirable characteristics (type of work, pay, location, etc). I would not quit the current job before you have something else (that's just my opinion). Also, be aware., there are unkind people anywhere. There is no guarantee your new job will be filled with angels..

Get that promotion then overload the ones you don't like with tons of work. Then giggle quietly with your maid in the corner office while they angrily pack their bags. Bait them into revealing something emotional about themselves then accidentally blurt it out to a neighboring Co worker...of anyone confronts you then start crying.

I'm just joking, don't do any of this... :)

Not sure you can get any useful job advice online when nobody knows your skill set. Some skills allow you to work from home (software engineers for example), where you have more control on the environment.

My problem is that I have absolutely no special skills at all !

I just do a small job in an office, that everybody can do... I am kind of stuck here...

But at the end, I will stay in this job, unless they fire me because I miss work A LOT !

You probably do have skills, even if they are not "special". Many (perhaps most) employers only need "regular skills".
I imagine by "special" you mean that very few people have that skill. Otherwise, feel free to explain what you mean by it.

I sympathise - it must be difficult to cope with Tinnitus with a full time job especially when you may not be getting a good night sleep then having to face people who probably don't understand plus they maybe just plainly horrible. I know that the problem doesn't lie with you but with them. Its horrible spending a third of your day in a job you hate. Only you can change it.

I know a few people just sell on Amazon. They just order the goods from China and Amazon sells it and make a good profit You must have something that you can just do from home or just retrain. I believe we only have skills that we can sell. Can you put up a shelf, paint or change a plug. I can't do any of those things but still make a good living based at home as I have found my niche. The ones doing well nowadays is those having their own business but selling labour or goods.

I would find it unbearable if I had to work 8 hours a day with Tinnitus (plus I am lazy and couldn't get up the morning anyway - not due to Tinnitus though). Life is much better if you have control of your own destiny instead of others controlling it for you, Best of Luck

Just try to look at the good side, many people in a loud job with Tinnitus would kill for a quiet job like yours. Switching jobs is not easy and having a stable job is helping your mental state probably more than you realise. Being stuck in a job that is boring is better than being stuck in a hole with no choices, no money, nothing to do etc etc.

If you do want to find another job best to try secure one before you leave your current one.

I know what it's like to work with high maintenance people and they don't give up, I hate to see anyone work with toxic workers. You could ask for another seat area, seek jobs at parks & recreation, maybe look into tourism avenue. Also, never leave until you have another job, look ahead, not back.

I am thinking about doing work from home as I have such bad hyperacusis. Tinnitus is also a blaring 8/10 and thus I am not able to work at a normal work environment.

      @Christophe_85

You could become a professional ‘T preventer’.

The role would be visiting nightclub/rock concerts with a bucket of €100 earplugs. When they tell you to piss off you can laugh in their face and walk away knowing that at least one of them will remember you selling those overpriced earplugs with tears of regret streaming down their face FOREVER!

That sound better than an office job???

To get back to this topic since last September...

I have my job in which it is not too noisy and confortable in some ways...

But sometimes I wish I could earn more because the pay is quite low...

However the main problem is that if my T would improve, all of that wouldn't matter anymore... I don't know what to do...

Anyway just to keep working is already a success to me !

      Hey @Christophe_85

I feel your pain and frustration. I’m kinda in the same boat. Thinking about whether I have to give up a job I really like (in an office) but unfortunately there are bells (which go all day) and have recently made my T worse. Caught between a rock and a fucking hard place!! :(

We should be cautious about hearing protection anyway; tinnitus or no tinnitus.
      Can you not consider re-skilling?

Consider getting a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Accountants work in a quiet environment.

I paid for it with my 20s and my 30s. There was a lot of stress that I had to deal with back then.

Doing research is stressful, as is trying to publish one's findings. When I began teaching, I thought that my stage fright would disappear as I gain experience. It has been well over 10 years now, and I still find public speaking to be stressful. Perhaps I will feel better in another 10 years. When I was a high school student, I hated having to do class presentations, and having to write essays. One time I even got my family doctor to prescribe Ativan to sedate me before an important presentation. Now my job is to write research papers and to do presentations... Having said that, I am not complaining.

There is always something to do. I agree with the most of the guys who have posted to this thread. Do not consider changing jobs just because you hate your colleagues. It's up to you to change the place that you're surrounded with. You can make positive contributions by looking to things from the opposite perspective. Just saying.
