It's something I have noticed for a long time. It's like a scrunch or crackling sound - kinda hard to describe.

I don't get any ear pain but I used to crack my jaw a lot as a kid. Reckon this could be related to the tinnitus (mine is like a hiss).

If this sounds familiar, is there anything I can to help? Thanks.

Thank you. But could this be the cause of my tinnitus?

If your eustachian tubes block up completely then it can cause a pressure imbalance in your middle ear. This can make you feel slightly deaf as your eardrum gets pulled inwards and it can also cause tinnitus. It’s unlikely the tinnitus would be permanent, though, unless your eardrum became damaged or you got an ear infection because of it.
