A Difficult Week of Ear Pain, Ibuprofen Concern, and Worry about Hearing Loss

I'm not a doctor, but... possibly? HOWEVER, the issue here is the noise exposure. I don't think you've done anything that would make it worse. You're dealing with the "but what if" here, but from what you write: no, I don't think you did anything wrong, and no, I don't think anything you did...

Can Overprotection Have Caused My Musical Tinnitus?

Very slowly. Remember that the spike from your daughter whispering was nowhere near enough to cause actual damage. The spikes will fade with time and normal sound exposure. But yes, I know what it’s like. It’s not fun. But there is hope. It’s going to take time, though.

A Difficult Week of Ear Pain, Ibuprofen Concern, and Worry about Hearing Loss

Don’t worry about the Ibuprofen. Almost every medication in the world has tinnitus listed as a reported side effect. They might as well include people who were struck by lightning after taking the pill.

What Pain Killers Can We Take?

Not to downplay anyone who has had a particular reaction, but if you look at the side effects of almost any medication, tinnitus is listed somewhere. I take Ibuprofen when I am sick, and it has not affected my tinnitus.

Seeking Advice for Reactive Tinnitus and Sound Distortion: What's the Best Way to Proceed?

Everyone’s tinnitus is different. I can only tell you what I did when I was in your situation. If it is noise-induced, give your ears about a month to rest using earplugs, so they have a chance to heal. This may make the tinny sound seem worse when you stop using the plugs, but that is likely...

Can Overprotection Have Caused My Musical Tinnitus?

This happened to me too, and it was caused by overprotection. The issue went away when I stopped overprotecting, but it took some time.

Musician with Reactive Tinnitus and High-Frequency Sensitivity from COVID-19

I have the same experience with reactive tinnitus. I use a treble-cut EQ unless I absolutely need to listen with treble, toggling it on and off as necessary. I also keep the volume as low as possible. For listening to music, I find that in-ear headphones paired with a treble-cut app work great...

Passed by an Ambulance with Sirens On — Now My Tinnitus Is Spiking

I really think there should be a law against this. Seriously. Try not to panic. That'll just make the brain imagine the tinnitus is louder than it is. Or something like that. Goddamn, sirens are a pet peeve of mine.

What's Your Experience with Exposure to Police Sirens?

Yes. I've come to think that for me anyway, as long as I don't ACTUALLY DO MORE ACTUAL DAMAGE, it goes back to baseline. That said, I still totally freak out every single time.

Can I Use Headphones with Unilateral Tinnitus?

I listen to music on in-ear monitors with an EQ app, where I reduce most of the treble. It works great for me.

Earplugs Went Through Washing Machine: Do They No Longer Provide Any Protection?

Foam earplugs, for example, are intended for single use. However, remember that if your earplugs, regardless of type, had suddenly become as ineffective as having nothing in your ears, you would have noticed. I’m fairly confident in saying that, yes, maybe your tinnitus spiked slightly, but that...

Headphones vs. In-Ear Monitors (IEMs): The Safest Option with Pre-Existing Tinnitus?

I use in-ear-heaphones with an EQ that cuts quite a bit of treble.

I'm a Musician from Sweden, Tinnitus Since 2014

An EQ on the main fader works well, or on drum tracks (cymbals especially). You can switch it on/off as needed. It works for me... thank God.
