I have enjoyed the ringing of distant and not so distant bells for over 20 years, maybe much longer. I've always been into very loud music, going back to the early 60s and went to hundreds of ultra loud concerts. So I was probably over due for tinnitus when it hit in my late 30s.
I went to an ENT and he prescribed Amitriptyline which did nothing for me. When I went back for a follow up he told mew there's no cure. There are surgeries available, but the success rate is low and the possibility of deafness with the tinnitus remaining. Can you imagine hearing nothing but the ringing?
The doc also told me that some of his patients got relief from Lipoflavonoid, so I tried it. I got some relief from it, but not enough to continue buying it.
Over the years I've developed the ability to block it out because there isn't much else I can do. I notice it but don't let it affect my mood or disrupt what I'm doing.
I do, however, REALLY miss quiet, watching a sunrise or in bed when everyone else is sleeping late at night.
