You could try some Lorazepam just to give yourself a break. But please be very careful as they are a nightmare to get off if you become dependent... which sadly is much easier than you might think.

No but I'd like to know too - right ear is 90% narrowed and my tinnitus is like a cranial sandstorm.

Mine is a high frequency pulsating hiss which has grown with intensity over the last 5 years. One increase was major after I attended a long music show. I also have been experiencing vertigo and my ears have developed an internal pressure which seems to be directly wired to the T.

I was thinking how I probably would not be here anymore if it wasn't for some modern inventions like my tablet which I use to access masking apps on the internet or the pharmaceuticals which saved me when I was unable to sleep for weeks. How did people with tinnitus cope in earlier times...

Lorazepam (Ativan) works well for me but I am wary of becoming dependent. Reduces anxiety to manageable levels and consequently reduces tinnitus annoyance factor. Also really helps with getting a few hours sleep when I am a complete wreck.

Andy Partridge from XTC (a brilliant UK New Wave band) is another guy with severe tinnitus. He attributes it to a sound engineer running a high level tone accidentally into his cans. Of note is that Andy was prescribed in his childhood large amounts of a (then) new anti-anxiety medication known...

That was a thoroughly riveting discussion - thanks to all involved. Loved his early highlighting of the pronunciation issue which is something that bugs me. But whatever camp you are in maybe if you get lucky you will only have Tinytus...

Also don't let a dentist near you with one of those ultrasonic cleaners which transmit high-energy sonic shockwave directly through your jaw bone/cranium to the tiny inner ear bones. It seems we are under assault from all sides with this Tinnitus thing.
