Hi, I developed thumping in my left ear prior to developing the tinnitus, which drove me nuts. I could not sleep at all, it was so loud. My doctor diagnosed it as glue ear, which is primarily a kids problem. It eventually got better but I developed ringing tinnitus in the right ear suddenly a few months later. A week later I got a massive head cold, never had one that bad, and didn't hear the ringing during it because my head was so fuzzy. But the ringing continued after the cold passed. The pulsing must have been there too, but not as noticable as now. Now I find the pulsing is constant, very difficult to sleep, sometimes I fall asleep out of exhaustion and then wake up 4-5 hours later and can't get back to sleep because of the pulsing. I hear it all the time, walking, cycling. It doesn't mask very well.
