I’m not a doctor, but I don’t think an MRI would explain the thumping. Sometimes, my heart thumps, too, and maybe when this happens to you, you’re hearing it because of the positioning of the artery. I think it would be a good idea to mention it to your ENT; it wouldn’t hurt.
My situation is very similar to yours, I’ve had pulsatile tinnitus for 4 years now, have had the whole radiology work up with a similar finding as yours, but with absolutely no ideas of what to do or what direction to take. Whooshers.com has a list of interventional neuroradiologists and I went...
@PTsufferer -
I can strongly relate to your situation, especially when you went to the whooshers.com site and your pulsastile tinnitus sounded nothing like their examples. I’ve never heard the term electrical pulsatile tinnitus is before, but it is a good definition of what it feels like.
I...
I’ve also given Ibuprofen a try for pulsation tinnitus with the underlying thought that it might affect inflammation and lower the PT. It did nothing, possibly made it worse. I’m presently taking turmeric and will give it a try for a few weeks to see if this has any effect. If nothing else...
@Stillsearching - that’s just fantastic that all of your years of searching finally have brought you to answers. You mentioned that Stenting may not achieve desired results. I’m interested to know if you happen to have learned the approximate success rate from Stenting, either from your...
@Lane
Thanks, I could see that if there is loud sound coming into the ear. I’ve done that and it was a big mistake. Set me back. I’m wearing a hearing aide with very low pink noise, it’s way below the sound of the T. I would never attempt anything loud.

Hi @LindaS
Thanks for your reply and information, I think you’re right that it is good to head off hearing loss early, even if only mild. In this regard, I am now using the hearing aid plus pink noise components of the aide the audiologist made for me. And I’m definitely noticing it easier...
@Michael Leigh
Hi - I’m actually a year in, June 2019. Did I write that wrong somewhere :unsure:?
I’ve done a fair amount of reading and will continue and won’t go the route of counseling along with the WNG. The online advice seems to be good . And your mantra of positivity is opening...
@LindaS
Hello, we have some similarities in what causes the hyperacusis. Running water from the faucets is a big one, higher volume voices are bad, even hearing my footsteps when walking increases it.
What jumped out at me was your hearing aides Sound have chimes. Truthfully that would make...
@Michael Leigh
First of all, thanks so much for all of your help. I’m giving the wearable pink noise generators another go, and I like your concept of positivity. I’m not going to pursue in office counseling due to covid, however am doing and will continue to do reading online.
One of the...
I too am reactive to loud voices, its physically painful and increases the tinnitus. I purchased several pairs of good ear plugs and if I try to head off loud voice problems by putting them in before I'm going to be in that situation. Doesn't take it all away, but it helps.

@Michael Leigh
It was pretty easy wearing the pink noise generators. However, what I noticed was an increase in the hyperacusis and was fearful of continuing. I found the low noise to be pleasant actually.
Here's what I'm wondering - at night I use a soothing fan to fall asleep. Could...
@Michael Leigh
Thanks for that, I wasn't aware that noise is the usual cause of hyperacusis. I had definitely been in some noisy circumstances the months before it started, but I had also been in the same places for years before it started. I'm wondering if my ears had finally weakened to it.
@Michael Leigh
I have tried my pink noise wearable sound generators given to me by an audiologist, on several occasions. Each time, after several days, the hyperacusis became so uncomfortable that I just stopped. And I had it on the lowest noise setting the last time.
In your opinion, do you...
What jumped out at me is the the relationship between volume of the tinnitus and your blood pressure. You may be able to get on a medication that will stabilize your blood pressure back to normal, and lower the volume consistently of the tinnitus. I would suggestion starting with a PCP...
