    Tinnitus and Work

I wear my Starkey Xeno hearing aid for 8 hours a day. Monday to Friday. I want to get use to the hissing sound until it becomes background noise. And it's starting to do that. It sounds like my mother's hissing radiators in the winter. I feel all the schools have steam radiators! I went to...

Have Any of You Warned People About Tinnitus?

I tell school kids who have their iPods. If I can hear them through their earbuds I will mention the dangers of getting tinnitus. I even take my masking hearing aid out and let them listen to the white noise. I tell them that's what they will be hearing 7/24 if they don't take care of their ears...

No Music for a While — I Have Tinnitus :(

I went to my audiologist today. The ear plugs were too large for my ear canal. He recommended these for small ear canals. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0044DEESS/?tag=tinntalk-20

    Tinnitus and Work

I have trouble at school when I sub. The tinnitus is more pronounced and it's a great distraction trying to deal with kids when I have to hear out of one ear. The acoustics in the room sounds strange. I got a masking hearing aid that filters white noise and that seems to balance out the sounds.

    Enjoying Live Music. Responsibly.

They should have campaigns. Most people are just plain ignorant over hearing lost and tinnitus. When I sub for a music class I try to educate school kids about their hearing. I let them hear my hearing aid that mask tinintus. I tell them that's what they will hear 24/7/365 if they don't protect...

No Music for a While — I Have Tinnitus :(

I tried the musician earplugs and I didn't like them. My son was playing his drums and I felt they didn't do anything. I could hear him. Is this normal?

    Hearing Aids

I don't have a hearing aid feature. VA gets their contracted hearing aid at cost. They don't get the market price. I might have a co-pay since my status is non service connected but I haven't recieved a bill yet.

    Hearing Aids

I'm using Starkey Xeno hearing aid. It streams out white noise. I wear it to school. It really helps me to concentrate better in class. They cost $2,000. If your a veteran you can get these hearing aids with a co-pay if you are non-service connected status.

    Military Corner

Update: I've been using my Starkey tinnitus masking hearing aid (Starkey RIC 10) for a week. It sounds like an old hissing radiator. It works well in the classroom. I'm able to concentrate better without the distraction of the tinnitus. I have hearing lost in my left ear and it's very...

    How to Forgive Myself?

I'm trying to forgive myself for getting tinnitus. I was in a deep depression for two years and the loud noises from my son's drum set didn't phased me. I didn't think nothing would happen to me. He was playing Jazz.

    Warning others about tinnitus

I do it all the time. When I sub for a music class I warned students about tinnitus and how it's caused. I got learning material from American Tinnitus Association to give it to the kids.

Did You Experience Any of These Conditions Before You Noticed Tinnitus?

I was having problems with depression for two years. Medication was used to mend the problems but many drugs didn't work. I just layed around the house and it was hard to get out bed to get motivated. It was nearly impossible to go to work but I went anyway. The loud noises from my son's drums...

Poll: Did You Know What Tinnitus Was Before You Acquired It?

My husband has tinnitus without hearing lost. He has had it since his childhood. So I thought your born with it. I thought harming your hearing with loud noises will just cause deafness. I thought you would just not hear anything like silence. I did not think ringing result. We need to educate...
