I am active and physically fit, loving the great outdoors. I love nature and the sea and the associated sounds and images. One of the big disappointments of tinnitus is no longer being able to experience silence. Before retiring, my work required me to drive many miles on motorways and I believe that road noise and radio noise may have triggered tinnitus which has steadily worsened to the point where it is difficult for me to concentrate on following a conversation. Hospital tests have shown no inner ear problems, and my only relief from the constant hissing is to play background sounds of a rain shower. I suppose I am ' managing' this condition at the moment but fear that I may become a social outcast if it gets worse.
Wearing two low profile hearing aids reduces the hissing but amplifies all background sounds which is disorienting.
I am a positive person, determined to explore anything which will potentially ease this condition.
