I was in the high school band and I believe that the loud noise of the glockenspiel harmed my hearing. In addition, I experienced ear infections with each cold of my life.
I'm uncertain when I first noticed the Tinnitus -- I doubt it had a name back then. By the time I was 50, it was very loud and annoying.
I hoped the hearing aids I got in 2009 would help. They didn't.
