Struggling with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Why Are Audiologists So Misinformed?

I think every single case is different—the cause, the presentation of the tinnitus, what it reacts to, and what the right thing to do is going forward. When I developed mine after an infection, an audiologist at a specialized tinnitus clinic did a hearing test and an LDL test. My tinnitus...

Hearing Humming That Stops with External Noise

I have this too. I can sometimes hear mine during the day as well. It’s really, really, really annoying.

Worsening Tinnitus and Withdrawal Symptoms After Quitting Mirtazapine

7.5 mg. It messed with my brain as well. I was not a fan, to be honest!

Worsening Tinnitus and Withdrawal Symptoms After Quitting Mirtazapine

This happened to me as well. I was on it for a week and then stopped. When I first started, my tinnitus felt much calmer, and I was thrilled. Then I began experiencing brain zaps, which scared me, so I stopped. After that, my tinnitus increased, but it calmed down again after a few weeks. I am...

Is My Experience with Amplified and Doubled Noises from Dysacusis, Hyperacusis, or Something Else?

I hope it is muscular, as @MindOverMatter says, but I am not convinced. My stress and anxiety have been well controlled for a few months now, yet the pattern remains the same: a steady hum in silence and a variable hum around any noise. Thankfully, I do not feel vibrations or thumping, only the...

Bilateral Tinnitus After Dental Work: Have I Missed Anything I Should Be Doing?

The timing with the dentist is suspicious, so I’d definitely look into that. I need a root canal myself and I’m dreading it. Have you had a hearing test? I’m five months in with similar noises, a humming sound and a white noise ring in the other ear, after an infection. I’m in Australia as...

Struggling with Severe Tinnitus and Seeking Hope After 16 Months

Seek out success stories and read them over and over again, whether on this forum or elsewhere. I don’t know much about the surgical options or their chances of success, so I’ll leave that to your doctors. What I do know is that at some point we have to stop pushing for an answer or a solution...

Back After Seven Years: Struggling with a Three-Week Tinnitus Spike and Looking for Motivation

I’ve heard that if you’ve habituated once, it’s much easier to do it a second time. You already know the process. I wish I did, since I’m still fairly new to this! So even if this spike doesn’t settle down, you will get back to where you were, in time.

Super Loud Car Engine Revved Nearby, Covered My Ears with My Fingers — Could That Be Enough to Cause Damage?

Regularly. I swear it was louder last night after I ate two pieces of banana bread. The brain is unbelievable!

My Dad's Tinnitus Success Story — From a Loud Flute Down to a Hiss Heard in Dead Silence

Wow! That’s an excellent story. Does your dad have hearing loss? Does he wear hearing aids?

Super Loud Car Engine Revved Nearby, Covered My Ears with My Fingers — Could That Be Enough to Cause Damage?

You are probably overthinking this. Go for a run, call a friend, or cook and enjoy a good healthy meal. You will be fine.

How to Cope with Ringing Ears, Hyperacusis, and Hearing Aids After Brain Injury

Do you have hearing loss, or were the aids just to help with the tinnitus or to play masking noise? If the aids are making things worse, I would stop using them, or simply give your ears more rest. Try to get out for walks in nature as well.

Right-Sided Low-Frequency Tinnitus: Suspected Vascular or Somatic Origin with Vacation-Linked Relief

I just think it’s masked by a lot of regular noise. Most speech is very low frequency, so our low frequency hum is constantly being masked and unmasked by speech and other environmental sounds. High frequency tinnitus is not masked by most sounds, so it wouldn’t be affected in the same way...
