I first noticed the ringing in my ears when my son died. I had it on and off before then but I didn't pay attention and it usually only happened after a concert or something loud. It became constant,in both ears after he died. It's been 3 years and about a month ago it got so loud that I can't understand what people are saying and I have to use the captions on the TV so I don't blast everyone out. I just contacted my doctor to see what I need to do.
