Sometimes it spikes for no reason, but sometimes it is just our perception. In both cases I think that one needs to break the vicious circle that brings to the catastrophic thinking. Are you into tv series? I can recommend some if you need some temporary but addictive break from the sound. Just play some masking and chill out.
