Offices are the best places for people with T. The biggest risk is a fire alarm, in my opinion.

Just work your way through it. It won't all be easy and nothing is going to make having T great, but the more you force yourself into normal environments, the more you will adapt and do better in normal environments.

I used to keep a small fan under my desk. When it was particularly tough I also used to play mountain stream sounds on a low volume. Over time, I just kind of naturally weaned off of it. Being open about your situation is helpful in my opinion, I received good support from coworkers.

Congratulations! Something I've realized over the last year, is that I am able to do more than I thought, within reason. I avoid loud places and carefully plan most of my activities. I just completed teaching a semester and I was pleased how quiet my campus and classroom were. The hardest part for me was getting to campus. The road noise was/is loud. I do wear musician's plugs when outside the house.

@twa that's the same problem I have. You might try Bose noise canceling headphones for the car. They kill the road noise.
