May not be unreasonable to expect the worst.

I fought really hard to be optimistic but I'm 6 months in with it still ringing.

I can't sleep without sound and it does get louder after noisy events (like a flight at the back of a plane).

If you can, you should go get prednisone immediately. Walk into an ER and tell them you're experiencing hearing loss from a gun shot and ringing. They should prescribe it asap.
