Hey Mirador! Read your post about your benzo taper. How's it going now? What's your current taper rate? I'm thinking of starting a taper soon. I think my pain H may be due to tolerance withdrawal and I also have very erratic T. Hope everything is going as smoothly as is possible during a taper.

Hey Erika. I would be extremely careful with daily benzos even at small doses. They cause T and H. Decreased effect of your medication on T is expected as your brain becomes tolerant to the drug and your GABA receptors are downregulated.

Hyperacusis and Tinnitus Following Acoustic Shock: How Can I Continue My Life?

You’re welcome! I know this situation is difficult, but I believe time is often the best remedy for palinacousis. In the meantime, anything you can do to increase your natural GABA levels and calm your nervous system, like exercise, good sleep, meditation, and a healthy diet, could help...

Hyperacusis and Tinnitus Following Acoustic Shock: How Can I Continue My Life?

Did he advise you to take the benzo daily? Daily use of benzodiazepines can cause more problems than you might imagine and often worsens tinnitus and hyperacusis in the long run. They’re usually fine to take occasionally, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend daily use. I’m currently trying to...

Do you have professional medical training? This is dangerous advice. Look up the difference between palinacousis and auditory hallucinations. Hyperacusis and Tinnitus Following Acoustic Shock: How Can I Continue My Life?

This is most likely palinacousis, quite common in patients with tinnitus and especially hyperacusis. I have had it myself. It usually improves over time. It is different from an auditory hallucination, as is sometimes seen with psychiatric illness.

Xenon Pharmaceuticals' XEN1101 — Kv7 Potassium Channel Modulator

Yeah I tried to get Canon Pianissimo done last fall and it is quieter hardware but still hits 110+ dB. Turned out a lot of these places don’t use the SOFTWARE needed to quiet it down to those levels. And even if they had the software, it’s often not possible for the resolution and sequences the...

Xenon Pharmaceuticals' XEN1101 — Kv7 Potassium Channel Modulator

MRIs are tremendously loud. They peak at 130-140+ dB. For those of us with significant hyperacusis/noxacusis, it’s out of the question. For people with just tinnitus, it’s a risk vs. reward decision. Can’t usually wear earmuffs on top of earplugs for brain MRIs and your ears are as close to the...

I’ve already tried requesting compassionate use for noxacusis pain. I agree there is no way they will offer it for tinnitus when they’re not currently trialing for tinnitus. They’re not offering compassionate use for any reasons due to the stage of development.
