Metronidazole was the cause of my tinnitus. I had silence my whole life, and tinnitus started after taking that. 11 years later and no improvement so sadly I'm guessing for some people the damage done is permanent.

I do as well, I have found that it's not possible for me at the moment to habituate to low frequency tinnitus it's so loud it wakes me up at night.

11 years later and it's still there, so I'd say that for some people the answer to "will it go away?" is a definite No.
