    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

It took me 1 minute to find it on the Page 3 of the Research News category: Neurosoft Bioelectronics: Implantable Electrodes to Treat Tinnitus Use the thread for discussion on Neurosoft, as this thread is for a different topic.

Not this. Take a closer look at middle ear implants or perhaps Neurosoft. Auricle might also provide some benefits. Ultimately, it may depend on Tinnitus Quest and how much funding can be raised for human research to explore other options. Every dollar counts!

I hope it does. I think they are doing a noise-induced tinnitus trial, but I would be very surprised if it was successful. I don't want to raise false hopes; there are many more promising things in the pipeline.

It's only good news for Meniere's. The hype needs to stop on this.

It shows that immune function can modulate tinnitus.

I have hope. Read my thoughts on the middle ear implants and, to a lesser extent, Auricle. I have hope because there is some evidence they could be effective. I can't just walk around in blissful ignorance, hoping. I would also like Derby County to win the FA Cup next year. I'm not very...

It will be available in 2 years.

Tinnitus Quest has not raised any funds yet, so any money raised needs to be spent wisely and carefully. Allocating funds to the right initiatives at the right time can be the difference between a successful treatment and a failed trial. We've all made mistakes in the past and will undoubtedly...

I'm very surprised. CHRONIC tinnitus? I see no indication as to how SPI-1005, a systemic anti-inflammatory, could be beneficial for tinnitus.

    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

Worthy find. SPI-1005 will do nothing for tinnitus unless caused by Meniere's disease. It is going down the SENS-401 route as an otoprotective drug.

    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

I'm convinced this is a DEAD DUCK. 1) All trial participants had Meniere's disease, distinguished by fluctuating low frequency hearing loss, vertigo and being episodic. They are not the normal chronic tinnitus patient. 2) This drug targets endolymphatic pressure, which brings on Meniere's...

I understand SPI-1005 is only for Meniere's. Keep expectations checked!

@Ela Stefan, all we know from that study is it reduced/reversed the damage from NIHL in rodents 3 months after trauma. That's interesting as that is towards the chronic end of things. That being said, rodents often do not translate to human findings. Still interesting at this stage!

@Padraigh Griffin, this was not directed at you. It was a point made on the study design and outcomes. It was not negative or positive but factual. I looked at the studies, what they measured ,and the outcomes of the study. This led to the conclusions. That is science. Of course I hope it...

Looking at applying for this study, however, the MRI worries me. Is it the noisy inner ear one?

    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

It may be useful looking at what it's been tested on to do: 1) Reduce tinnitus in Meniere's patients 2) Reduce NIHL and thereby associated tinnitus in ACUTE settings. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties SPI-1005 would be similar to steroids. I have not seen any evidence that it is useful...

Was it 30% response rate or 30% reduction in symptoms? I thought the former was indicated.

There is no treatment. It is in a clinical trial and may still fail.

I'm quoting from the company's website. I understand that Meniere's is classified by low frequency hearing loss, tinnitus and episodic vertigo.

It's good news, just pointing out what it is designed to do.

    Sound Pharmaceuticals (SPI-5557 & SPI-1005)

The following is taken from Sound Pharmaceuticals' website: The take home for me is that it improved hearing loss at low frequencies and thus reduced tinnitus loudness. This is what you would expect of a treatment for Meniere's disease, where key characteristic is low frequency hearing loss...
