    Meniere's Disease

I really don't know. I've been told that my theory is not likely. I was having some serious sneezing fits for months. I'd have loud, forceful sneezes about 30 times before even arriving at work, and then about another 30 by noon. Loud and putting lots of pressure in my ears. One morning, I...

    Meniere's Disease

I'm much like Teri. My balance issues are mild, can still go about my daily life, symptoms are H, T, fluctuating hearing loss, and then balance and fullness (in that order).

@Mad maggot, I'm not offended. :) I'm at a conference in Vegas. Thought I was going to pass out in line at hotel registration. Ugh... I'm doing better today though.

    Meniere's Disease

I don't think it was due to an ear infection. I was having hearing problems and got checked for an infection or perforated eardrum. I had neither. I question your claim that it's a minority of people that don't carry the heroes virus. I believe it is pretty split down the middle. 50/50. So...

    Meniere's Disease

Geez. I understand you carry herpes for life!! But you DONT carry it for life if you've never had it!! What about those people who have Menieres and you are saying it's not Menieres but it's a herpes virus??
  12. SueR

    Meniere's Disease

Well mine didn't. Just used the term Menieres. But I do hear that the often use interchangably.

    Yup. They do!
  14. SueR

    Meniere's Disease

I don't see how that questions the existence of Menieres.
  15. SueR

    Meniere's Disease

exactly. If a doc is LOOKING in your ear and says there's no fluid, he's talking about a different issue, totally unrelated to Meniere's. We don't have ear infections, fluid blockage, or anything else that can be seen on an otoscope.
  16. SueR

    Meniere's Disease

Nucleo, what of the ones who have NEVER had any herpes outbreak? There appears to be no more herpes sufferers in the Meniere's community than in general population. So, all of those non-Herpes folks -- what about them? Teri, there's a difference between having fluid in the ears that is...

    Meniere's Disease

and someone carries this virus for 20 years? I don't buy it. I think in some cases, perhaps. I've seen (in a FB support group) that polled the folks and it was about the same percentage of people who have ever had a herpes outbreak AND has Meniere's is about the same percentage in the general...

    Meniere's Disease

I had an ENT tell me I only had tinnitus. Doesn't make it true. Then I went to a highly specialized hospital in Boston (Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary). I trust what they say more than the ENT I saw. At MEEi, I saw a neurotologist and an otological. I also saw a neurologist at Newton-Wellesley. The...

    Meniere's Disease

Menieres is dx'ed through symptoms when other dx are ruled out. That doesn't mean it isn't a real dx. Ménière's can only be confirmed upon autopsy. Yes, some get mis-dx'ed.

    Meniere's Disease

No. I went to a Sox game without ear plugs. Did fine until the woman next to my so. Was talking VERY loud and high pitched. Left with a headache. I could be wrong about the cause though.

    Meniere's Disease

I didn't welcome you when I first saw your post, @Dutchman. My apologies. I'm having a go lately. I'm on day 4 of feeling like dog poo. Just a low-level crappy feeling (relatively speaking). Enough to zap my energy, have problems concentrating, very irritable. I feel like I've gone on a...

    Meniere's Disease

I never thought that dB level would bother me, but it did. It was really stressing me a lot. I'm also not used to that kind of stress. Trouble having a conversation, someone in my office and I couldn't wait for her to STOP TALKING (and I've NEVER had that feeling before with her in my...

    Meniere's Disease

ugh... I have asked my boss if they could turn down the sound system in our offices. Starting Friday, they turned them up and it's making me sick. The sound system is a masking sound for privacy in the offices. You aren't supposed to really notice them, but I'm not the only one complaining...

    Meniere's Disease

No I can't really hear it. I tried the closed caption but it wasn't in sync with the video. And there were a ton of mistakes in the words. I can make out some words but miss a lot. My hearing in the left is normal (but with some T) and the right is garbled and bothersome.

    Meniere's Disease

my H has been heightened lately. I had a headache for 2 days, and figured the H would let up after the headache left. Not yet. I'm watching the TV with the volume at 3 and my right ear sounds like a wind tunnel. I hope this isn't my new norm.

    Meniere's Disease

So says one person on the Internet. People are mis-diagnosed all the time. My son went to a world-renowned ophthalmologist who told me he had LCA (Lebers congenital amaurosis). I asked at every visit "you sure it's not ROP?? (Retinopathy of prematurity)". Nope. LCA. Then when he was 5 1/2 yo...

    Meniere's Disease

good luck with that. I suspect I know why my hydrops started, but there's no proof that the incident caused it and it wasn't some other incident. What does it matter?? It happened. No test is out there that says the incident is or isn't the culprit or whether it was a separate incident. No...

    Meniere's Disease

    * hydrops only confirmed on autopsy. * still no known reason for hydrops. therefore, "idiopathic" is the appropriate medical term.

    Meniere's Disease

"Idiopathic" Ménière's is not an urban myth. It just means cause is unknown. And since we don't know the cause, hard to say "unknown" is a myth. But as far as your animal theory-- I'm not an outdoorsy person and haven't been on a farm or to a petting zoo. And I hadn't even felt lousy. My H...

    Meniere's Disease

maybe how your ear parts are made up from the beginning? propensity for the problems? I think if you are born with particular parts that are weaker (and it runs in the family), and then you have some kind of insult to the ear parts, then that's where it comes from. that's scientific-speak. lol

if it's not the cause, why is it progressive? I have not had any bacterial infections in my Meniere's ear. At least not in the last decade or two.

Well technically there is no such thing as "sodium free", as its in many produce. Watch ALL packaged foods. Drop that bag of chips )potato crisps!) and make air-popped popcorn and add the salt yourself, sparingly. MUCH less sodium and still get that salt fix.
  46. SueR

    Meniere's Disease

I think that the onset is different with everyone too. I have very mild symptoms and progression seems to be very slow with me. Doc said she believes it's early stages. So, didn't come on suddenly with me, except the hyperacusis (which is now controlled, quite well in fact). so far, just...

    Meniere's Disease

I don't get the V either. Early stages of Ménière's perhaps? From what I have heard people have it in varying degrees and everyone is different. For some, vestibular problems manifests as "balance issues", others with full blown V.

    Meniere's Disease

hello, ffJimmy. That's a whole lotta chuck of change you dropped for your "cure". I was also recently dx'ed after lots of testing, and I am in a very quiet period right now. Just because you are 80% better, does not mean you are cured of Meniere's. This disease goes through cycles - waxing...

    Meniere's Disease

I asked about the possibility of it being migraine w/o pain instead of Meniere's, since i'm having all sorts of vision issues. She said it could be I have something else in addition to the Meniere's, but that she feels certain it's Meniere's. I'm having more ear problems. Still not bad, but...

I'm doing it mainly for flexibility, but I figured balance, posture, flexibility, strengthening... it's all good! I have really tight muscles. Something I've had to on for years and have neglected after I tore my soleus (calf muscle) during a race. I dropped out of running almost completely...
