I really don't like this post. It actually isn't always real or possible to overcome tinnitus. That's like saying there is always a cure for cancer and those who died didn't have enough hope.

      Hi @Jeff M.,

Thank you for the positive post. But, I agree with @devonlee, not everyone will find relief. But, for those who could benefit, can you provide more details on how you were able to overcome tinnitus.

      You said:

That implies that you did something specific to overcome your tinnitus. Please provide the details so that those who can benefit from the technique(s) you used will be able to find the relief they are seeking.

Hey Guys, So when Tinnitus hit me out of the blue on Oct 12 2012, it rocked my world!! Seriously effed me up. No sleep, anxiety, depression, went out of my mind!!! The first year was pure hell. My severe idiopathic Tinnitus is off the chart. Still screaming even at this moment! Anyhow, what did I do to overcome???

Well, first was making a decision to own it. Sounds simple but it's what started my recovery. I personified my T and took control of it, instead of it controlling me. It took a ton of effort and will, but I did it. I accepted the fact that I will have this with me for the rest of my life, and decided to move on. Once I sold out for that mission, things got easier.

Other techniques I used to habituate; exercise (running and surfing), getting naturally tired. Breathing exercises and meditation. Working on acceptance and trusting my lymbic system to chill out. Mellow masking. And the occasional glass of wine!!

I'm sorry @devonlee that you didn't like my post. But positive posts on TT were pivital to helping me to get through my hellish experience when I first got tinnitus. I am simply trying to share my experience and let people know that I never thought I would get through this, yet I did. Hope can help alot. I hope you are well!

Is it gone or did it just fade and you habituated?

Sounds like it hasn't faded, but that it no longer has a big impact on him and on his mood...

I think that this thread would probably be better appreciated in the Success Stories category.

Thanx @Bobbie7 !! right back at ya! @dpdx & @Bill Bauer , my tinnitus has not faded or gone away but I have habituated to it. Never thought it was possible but it happened. I still hate it but I don't let it own me.

You know. Actual success stories of the tinnitus improving or going away. For some reason people post habituation posts there.

If I may say so @dpdx you are new to tinnitus and I believe you have every chance of habituating to it. Many people habituate in 6 months to a year perhaps a little longer. I don't know how intrusive your tinnitus is, but recommend that you click on the links below and read my articles. Try to read them in full and not skim through them.

      All the best
      Michael

@threefirefour There are no success stories. Only personal stories. @Jeff M. I admire that you found a way to keep on.

I think you're right. Someone does not necessarily needs to be completely cured from tinnitus before you can call it a succes story. I would consider something a succes if someone has gotten his life back as it was before he or she got tinnitus. What's more to want if it's no longer a burden?

That doesn't sound like it's no longer a burden, sounds more like fake it till you make it.
