I very much get the impression that those members who are 'full steam ahead' for a cure, to the exclusion of all else, are scouring the full range of possibilities:
surgery - pharmacology - stem cell etc....
except of course, psychotherapy, which they will probably dismiss out of hand.

While we are looking for possible treatments and cures, we need to be aware that surgical procedures often entail collateral damage.
(Would you want to be a guniea pig?)
Pharmaceutical treatments often entail disastrous side effects. (guniea pig?)
There is no real downside to psychotherapeutic treatments.
The only question is the efficacy.

I have a cunning plan.
Don't hold your breath.

Noise = Anxiety - we absolutely know that.
We obviously can not avoid experiencing the noise/hiss - we have no choice.
The noise always triggers the anxiety.

But is it possible to separate the noise from the anxiety?

Would it be possible, perhaps using hypnotherapy, supported by
self-hypnosis and auto suggestion (incidentally a very underrated resource) to come to accept the noise as 'normal?'

The noise should not matter if it can be adopted as 'normal' phenomena.
You can argue that 'hiss' is clearly not a normal phenomena, but to all of us people with Tinnitus, of course, it really has become the norm.
The hypnotic suggestion should be very targeted - perhaps along the lines of:

"....this hiss is perfectly normal...
there is no need to worry about it...
just let it sit there....easy now....
just accept it.....
there is absolutely nothing to worry about...
just take it easy.....hiss-is-normal....."

Remember that the messages go in subliminally.

Use hypnotherapy to actively interrupt the chain of 'noise triggered anxiety.'
My missus, being a qualified clinical hypnotherapist,
(...that bloke's got it made
....lucky bastard...)

has started incorporating this approach with me.

I do have different times, different days, when I might feel anything between
'distress and indifference.'
But 'indifference' does happen!

Of course I am very well aware that the suggestion of a psychotherapeutic treatment may send some members apoplectic with rage, but then those who are 'ant-suffering' may like to give it a try, if they can find themselves a good local practitioner.

Now I'm beginning to feel a bit nervous.
I've put my sports jockstrap on,
and I'm heading down to my bomb shelter at the bottom of the garden.
In the meantime, here is a picture of a really cute little pussycat......x

Firstly, Percy is a beautiful cat! If you need anybody to look after him, send me a PM haha
But is it possible to separate the noise from the anxiety?
I certainly think so and that is the basis for habituation. I believe a lot of CBT for tinnitus uses similar methods to change your belief around the sound.

Something I also say myself is "hear it, don't fear it" and interrupting negative thoughts about my tinnitus within 60 seconds and not attending to them.
