Hi everyone,

I'm currently dealing with cochlear hydrops and pretty distressing tinnitus, which has made sleep especially difficult. I'm exploring options to help with insomnia, but I'm also very cautious because I'm sensitive to anything that might make my tinnitus worse, both while on the medication and after stopping it.

Two options that have come up are Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone. I understand that everyone's response is different, and I'm not looking for medical advice—just hoping to hear about your personal experiences.
  • Has either one been helpful for sleep without worsening your tinnitus?
  • Did you notice any changes after stopping the medication?
  • Any other thoughts or gentle options you've tried?
If you're comfortable sharing, it would mean a lot. I'm just trying to make the most informed and cautious choice I can. 🙏

Thank you in advance. I wish peace and quiet for all of us.

Warmly,
Ernesto

Hi @ErnieRo,

I have been taking Mirtazapine for more than four years now, and I have never stopped it.

It did not make my tinnitus worse, and I have not experienced any side effects.

I have taken it at the maximum dose of 45 mg, but I am currently down to 15 mg. This drug actually works better for sleep at lower doses.

Unfortunately, Trazodone has not been available in France for several decades, but it has often been recommended to me on Tinnitus Talk.

Best wishes.
