Cause of Tinnitus
hearing loss in left ear
Hello,

I am a new member. I have had the recent onset of what I consider fairly significant tinnitus, which began three weeks ago. About a year ago, I experienced sudden hearing loss in my left ear and was prescribed hearing aids. I wore them on and off over the past year.

Three weeks ago, I developed what I consider fairly significant tinnitus in that ear. At first, it was constant, but now it subsides when I sit in quiet settings. However, it spikes in situations such as when I am with a group of people talking (four or more) or in noisy environments like restaurants. In those situations, it becomes somewhat unbearable to participate because my focus shifts entirely to the tinnitus.

I have seen my audiologist and ENT, but they did not provide much help. My Oticon hearing aid has a tinnitus setting that produces white noise, and I have started experimenting with it in those situations. I have been using it on a low setting only in my left ear, which is my worse ear. So far, I am not sure if this is the right approach, as I still find myself fixated on the sound, whether it is the white noise or the tinnitus.

Since I am just getting started, I am wondering if I am on the right track.

Thanks!
