Struggling with Increased Tinnitus After Stopping Mirtazapine

Hi all,

I recently became the father of my second child, and all in all, my life has been very stressful over the past years. I've been on Mirtazapine for 6 years at 7.5 mg for sleep.

I've had difficulty waking up early in the morning to help with the kids, so together with my doctors, I decided that I would stop taking Mirtazapine. They told me that this dosage is so low I could stop without tapering.

The first two days were fine, but after that I became somewhat depressed and very sad. That's when I noticed that my second tinnitus, which I almost never hear, changed in volume. It became so loud that I could clearly hear it in a silent room alongside the tinnitus I always have. It scared me so much that I resumed the medication, but unfortunately the spike in that tinnitus has remained.

It has now been 3 weeks, and I'm wondering if this will never settle again, or if it's the stress that's keeping it elevated.

I'm totally broken at the moment and don't know what to do. I also need to stop the medication, but after that experience I don't know how to do it without being scared of making things even worse.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you,
Chris
