Tinnitus after concert

i'm a 19 year old boy from Norway, i got my tinnitus after a concert with wiz khalifa on the 11. October.
i don't notice it while at work, or if i got my mind on something, but if i'm in a quiet room or i'm trying to sleep with no white noise i can clearly hear it.

The sound varies from a low hum/electrical leak sound to a more higher pitch note (i guess?) once in a while, it feels like a blown speaker in a way.

my hearing is still good but i feel like my ears are much more sensitive to sound.

the problem is i love making music (hiphop beats) but i feel like i can no longer do that with my tinnitus, as it might make it worse? just as my music career got to a higher level (might do some work with some known norwegian rappers) i got tinnitus, really typical!

I like this site, and i've read that some clinical tests are in progress, i like the sound of that! i still hope my tinnitus will go away on its own, as it's not been that long since i got it.

i got a appointment with a ear nose throat specialist the 17. December, then i'll know how much damage was done, hoping for some good news!

i still do some music in my home studio, it's good when you can control the volume.

by the way, don't use headphones or really at a low volume, and good ones like AKG or other

that's good to hear, so headphones are bad? i'm building a studio in my basement with a friend of mine. anyone got any good ear plugs i could use while down there, so i don't do any further harm?

Get a pair of custom fit musicians ear plugs - Etymotic/Elacin and ACS are some industry standards. They come with mutiple filters (typically -9, -15 and -25db) so you can change them depending on where you're going to be, whether in the studio or at the clubs.

You can definitely continue on with your career, tinnitus is so common amongst us musicians - it's nutty! Just be smart, work at low volumes, take breaks every hour (hard to do when you're in the zone I know!), get plenty of sleep, and exercise!

Because your tinnitus is still pretty new and you've said your ears are a bit sensitive to sound at the moment, I would avoid doing too much work right now to just give your ears some rest, then when you feel more comfortable, slowly ease back into it!

'Good' you joined this forum. Many in here are in similar situations, including myself Funny enough my best gig (dj) was at the 11th oct, 6 days from that my t started. Let's hope the ipod generation can bring attention towards this issue Nomatter what a lot of trials and studies are being done on the subject, fear not!

As for your career I'd suggest keep on pursuing the dream! Hey, most of the biggest musicians have tinnitus, you almost need it to have made it lol ;d with the right precautions (yonkapins guidance) you should slowly test your treshold and firstly give your ears some rest, but not complete isolation.
You cant completely guard yourself from potential future harm, on the other hand isolating yourself from what you love doing is the save road downhill, So keep it up!

Ofc you might seem geeky, well equipped with pro earplugs amongst all the rappers, its about respecting the music and sound

Seems like many outside scandinavia are put on various different things, steroids and what not. Here in Denmark they don't do anything :O Let us know what the ent tells you - have you paid one a visit yet btw, or just the upcoming one?

i'll keen on doing my music, but with the right precautions, hopefully it will go as i hope.
i've only been to my doctor which only gave me the appointment for the ENT, i hoped for some sleeping aid or something to calm me down once in a while but he wouldn't give me any.

i haven't been to the ENT yet so we'll see how it goes, i'm curious to see how much damage was done and how severe it is. i'll keep you posted

Sure thing.
Just to prepare you, most doctors either say nothing or 'live with it', and for many including myself again, there was nothing to get at at the ENT - which is really good, yet frustrating Curious for the result, and for the potential treatments they might offer in norway!

until that search around the forum for super tips and tricks. Personally I'm planning on getting some of those super fine earplugs made, lots of advice around on it = )
