Hi,

It's been a long time since I posted here under another name, back when I first developed tinnitus in my left ear after a major asthma attack and medication. I never thought I would be back, since my tinnitus eventually settled and I habituated.

Recently, within the last week, I developed a sore throat on the left side, laryngitis (my voice only came back today), and some left ear aching. The ear pain wasn't too bad, but the throat was worse, and I felt quite unwell. About four days ago, my tinnitus became much louder, with a rushing or whooshing sound layered over my baseline tinnitus. It's been causing me stress and some anxiety, because I'm constantly thinking about it and now have to use sound to mask it in order to sleep. I never thought I'd need to do that again.

My GP said the tinnitus is more than likely louder and changed due to fluid and inflammation in the ear, and that it should settle once the fluid drains and the inflammation eases in a few weeks. He explained that the sore throat, ear issues, and laryngitis are connected, and that this situation is quite common, though I'm not entirely sure about that. He prescribed antihistamines for 10 days to help with the ear inflammation.

Has anyone experienced something similar, and what was the outcome with your tinnitus? I would really appreciate some feedback. Going through habituation was hell the first time, and I really don't want to go through it again if this doesn't settle.

Thank you.
