I live near a noisy road (4 the floor, so maybe not ear damage noise, but still very annoying and hard to concentrate, makes me angry often).

My previous solution was using earmuffs with good sound isolation.

I understand it may not be a good idea to use the on their own (I hear louder tinnitus, because it's increasing my auditory gain).

Can I still use them, as long as I use earphones below with for pink noise just below the tinnitus as the TRT guidelines? Is a good test whether I hear the tinnitus increasing in that situation?

Or will this be bad for the tinnitus and if so, why?

      Thank you.

I think that is going to have to be your own experimentation. I personally can't stand ear protection for anything but brief exposure to noise, such as mowing the yard, etc. Just before starting a noisy project, and immediately afterwards, I realize how much louder the T is by being trapped by the hearing protection.

You need to be referred to ENT for tests on your auditory system. If there is no underlying medical condition causing your tinnitus then a referral to a Hearing Therapist or Audiologist is advised for treatment in tinnitus management.

Trying to treat yourself using headphones and pink noise or white noise is not a good idea. You do not know enough about tinnitus and how to treat it and will likely make the condition worse. Please click on the links below and read my articles on tinnitus. Try to read them in full and not skim through them.
