  • Have horrific thoughts that I can't seem to manage without meds. Does anyone know which SSRIs meds are safe to take ?

Hi @dreamer16, according to the French tinnitus specialist, the safest SSRI antidepressant is Vortioxetine (Brintellix). It is the only one that doesn't mention tinnitus as a side effect.
However I have never tried it, as it is supposed to suppress appetite, and there is no way I loose weight.
If you don't mind losing weight, maybe you should talk about it with your psychiatrist.

Any serotonin agonist has the potential to increase tinnitus. Research suggests fusiform cells in the dorsal cochlear nucleus become hyperactive and hypersensitive to stimuli when exposed to serotonin. However, there are users here who have noted SSRIs had no negative effect on their tinnitus, so the only way to know is to try them out yourself. There are many other types of antidepressants you could look at too.
