    Tinnitus Since:
    2010
    Cause of Tinnitus:
    Unknown, probably neck issues
Awful Left side High Pitched Pulsatile Tinnitus synchronous with heartbeat. Sometimes have mild pulsatile tinnitus on right side. Also, on right side sometimes get popping noises in ear. Everything is much worse in Supine (lying on back, face up) position, and better in Prone (face down to left) position.
I've had multiple MRI's, CT's, of neck, auditory, brain and nothing was found.
The symptoms in Supine position can also include spasms in my very lower neck area (sometimes feels internal to throat).
Somatic - moving neck or jaw changes intensity.
I've tried acupuncture and Physical therapy.
I went to a TMJ expert and got a molded acrylic mouthpiece that I wear 24 hours a day. This "splint" moved my bones apart in the TMJ area. The TMJ ball and socket didn't have any spacing between them, but now there is spacing.
THE TMJ TREATMENT REDUCED MY HORRIBLE HIGH PITCHED PULSATILE TINNITUS BY ABOUT 20 to 50%. I NO LONGER CONTEMPLATE SUICIDE EVERY OTHER DAY.
I believe that the cause of the Pulsatile Tinnitus in in my neck, and the nerve is transmitting the noise to my hearing. I don't have pain in my neck.
For the first few years, I had the fullness feeling in ears, some vertigo, brain fog, etc. I had to take Xanax to help those symptoms as well as helping reduce the loudness of the Pulsatile Tinnitus. After a year or so, I weaned from the Xanax, but the loud high pitched Pulsatile Tinnitus was still there. A few years into it, I "retired" at 55 yrs old. Leaving behind the stress of work allowed me to cope a little better with the symptoms. In 2020, the TMJ splint reduced the loudness by 20 - 50%. I take 10mg of bilayer Melatonin to help me sleep better, but my nervous system in neck and head are very agitated when lying down, especially on my back.
