When I entered first grade I was given a hearing test. A headset was placed over my ears and the lady administering the test told me to raise my hand when I heard a noise. I promptly raised my had since I was hearing a noise. That was when she told me she hadn't even turned the machine on yet. I would imagine that I must have had tinnitus prior to that moment, but that was the first time I really noticed it. I've had it ever since. Most of the time I can tune it out, but not always. Sometimes it just really roars.
