Frustrated. I'm Going to Make Myself a Guinea Pig.

Just want to say good luck. I have been on Lamictal/welbutrin combo for 10 years - the lamictal, after decades of suffering severe episodes of depression and agitation changed my life. It wasn't until 10 years after starting it that I got tinnitus. I have also taken a very small dose of Xanax...

    Habituation: No Action Required?

I can't add much to what people have said. What would make it worse is changing my life around it. I have to put up with T - but then give up what I enjoy also? Ack. That said -- I do sometimes change my environment during times it's really intrusive - maybe white noise or a walk. And I do have...

So What Is Life with Tinnitus to You?

Hi - I had hearing loss long before the T set in. The hearing aids help occasionally because they raise the level of background noise a bit which masks the T. But I often don't feel a difference beyond just being able to hear conversations etc ...the usual benefits of hearing aids. And...

So What Is Life with Tinnitus to You?

My life is the same as before T....um...... just with a fax-machine, cricket, and occasionally shrieking sound (that varies in loudness )accompanying me through the day and night.... What helps: I try to consider the noise being "beside" me rather than inside my head. That mental picture of...

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Discussion & Experiences & Questions

Mainly hesitant because of cost, given that I have the "perfect storm" of hearing loss and family history to have tinnitus. However - if there's a chance that there is an underlying cause that could be addressed it would be worth it.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Discussion & Experiences & Questions

Hi everyone - An ENT said that because I have T in only one ear that I should get an MRI if the T hasn't gone away after 3 months. Well - three months is up and it's still in one ear. I am torn about having the MRI. I figure the T is just a part of life - it's so common with hearing loss...

    What Has Tinnitus Taught You?

I think part of the new parent syndrome too, is feeling bad about feeling bad -- it's a huge change and it seems it's always portrayed as this soft-focus amazingly perfect time. For me it was a huge mix -- deep joy - fatigue - amazement - feeling inept and unable to surrender to the experience...

    Volume Limiting Cable for Headphones

Hi - well . . . I combined that little cable with sound-limiting headphones (dB Logic HP 100, about 20 dollars). I'm sure it's still not enough - BUT it's way better than what he was doing. Even with the computer volume at its loudest it's quite low through the headphones...

    Volume Limiting Cable for Headphones

Hi - not sure where this post goes -- but I have a son with a disability (non-verbal, 15 yrs old) who LOVES to watch videos on the computer at high volume. The computer doesn't have a way to limit volume output. I found this product that goes between the headphones and the computer and it...

    What Has Tinnitus Taught You?

I like reading the different ways people view their T - what it brings to/takes from life. Oddly - it has taught me that I'm lazy - I don't have a desire to seek formal treatment at this point. I'm in "plow ahead" mode and T is the ultimate test of my half-*ssed mindfulness practice. And...

    What Has Tinnitus Taught You?

Some people who experience negative health episodes (of all kinds) say they gain something from it. I'm curious about positive things people can share that have come out of having T. Only 2 months in - but here goes: Don't "suck it up." Seek support where other people understand. Read these...

    Waking Up — Weird Thing

Sometimes when it starts up in the morning (or gets suddenly louder any time during the day) I wonder if it's because I think of it - or if I think of it because it got louder. Which comes first? Sometimes during a quiet time the thought of T pops into my head and I think, "***T - why did I...

    Whistle While You Work

A very short write-up about the onset of tinnitus and moving ahead. A bit hesitant to post - but I have so appreciated people sharing their experiences - what the heck. Learning slowly how life has changed (...and hasn't changed) since the silence pretty much ended...

First doctor appointment for tinnitus - a bit disappointed

Hi - my first doctor appointment for tinnitus left me a bit disappointed. I saw an ENT and audiologist. The audiologist had good news - my hearing loss is stable - about 70 percent. The ENT after an exam, gave me the "get used to it and listen to white noise" talk. I really did expect that...
