    I've heard some people had spikes after ear cleaning at professionals(high pressure of water sprayed from large syringe), I'd recommend using the stuff that dissolves earwax at home.

    Yes it can, some people have had success with muscle relaxants. But it's best to take them before sleep because they can make you drowsy. I think one can get prescription from any doctor.

    Can it be due to different type of blood circulation/pressure when lying down? I suppose one could try sleeping reclined instead of laying down and see it? I just try to keep my mind off it when I wake up, noticing it/thinking about it always makes it worse
