@Linda_na
Habituation is real and it takes that initial moment when you realize you actually forgot about the noise for a time. I was quite depressed until one night it just clicked that tinnitus is a noise I can block out like any other (fan, traffic, etc). My depression stopped that night...
I’m occasionally near percusive drilling and large turbo charged diesel equipment. My goto are 3M taper fit 2 ear plugs. They have to be fully inserted for protection, so practice before you need them.
@dipp
I hear your situation, I’m actually on my third habituation. This first was around 2000 and I went ear plugs for anything louder than normal office noise and the T disappeared. 2013 it came back for a few weeks and I think I habituated, but I completely forgot about it. March 11, 2019...

Great to hear !
After I first habituated, I found any T discussion would focus me back on the noise. The forums are positive, I just to avoid the reminders.
Hi, my tinnitus arrived 6 years ago and habituated with these 3 things:
1 - Earplugs in quiet rooms... the sound level increases, but it sounds like it’s external, so it’s much easier to block out.
2 - I go to bed when I’m really sleepy.
3 - Avoid these forums or anything that reminds you...
