I don't know what the difference is between tle different subtypes.

Of tinnitus? Tinnitus is a symptom from a condition and not a condition itself. If tinnitus is caused by hearing loss then it's permanent, you cannot fix ear damage. If tinnitus is caused by other factors such as medications (that didn't harm the ear) or caused by TMJ or other treatable sources then it can definitely go away. It's finding the source which caused it.
