    Losing Yourself

@Della Beautiful passage. Thanks for sharing. I thought I was habituated to tinnitus, but sometimes it is like a snake striking. However, until I just thought of it as I typed this, I didn't even consider that it was there. This is a lot to digest: "until we become strong enough to accept...

    Habituation Question

Thank you for tht Mr. Music! I've heard you and I know how I try to implement what you have said about "not measuring your response," but telling myself how I feel about it helps me to understand "measure you response" better.

    Habituation Question

That is exactly what it is. We need to accept it. Unless there is a permanent cure, we're going to live with it (most likely the rest of our lives) and we can't avoid that truth. You are neither helpless nor hopeless. Just give yourself the time and self love you would give others. I feel...

Oldies sometimes make us newbies feel worse!

Let me point out to you that when you go to reviews of a doctor, business, etc., you will find that the most negative are often the ones who take the time to post their complaints. At least that has been my experience. So you may be reading some of that. But I think Stina is right too. We have...

Oldies sometimes make us newbies feel worse!

Another thought or two. My late husband had a saying: God gives his heaviest loads to his Strongest Children I didn't always want to hear this, but it was usually comforting and instructive. Obscessing, as others have said, over thinking, giving too much attention to negative thoughts...

Oldies sometimes make us newbies feel worse!

I have only known my tinnitus to be a real problem for a few years, and I too felt dismal and hopeless when it first started. My father had it from middle age to when he died and he soften complained about it. But I think there was less support in the medical field, no internet to find like...

    Is it all about anxiety?

I know my T gets worse with stress, as both have increased over the last month. But from what I have read here on the forum, there are many factors that can increase T either temporarily or seemingly permanently. I have had increases with anxiety and body tension and the T got better when these...

    What a day!

Congratulations. I am happy you are strong enough to do all this despite the physical problems you have to endure. Add "I am brave" to your list and give yourself a big hug. Remember too, that some drugs need to be given time before you can really judge the side effects. I used to use...

    What a disastrous week... :(

Rhea, I am so sorry for you. I also watched as one of my cats was hit by a car. She followed me and my dog to the busy street. I used to think it was cute that they would walk with us, but I no longer allow that. My T always spike when I am sttressed or have long exposure to a lot of noise...

    Habituation Setback

So today my T is not apparent as it has been during the day, and when I plug my ears is only slightly there. I expect this is an anomoly, lol. My T is not as severe as many report so it is probably more likely I will experience more periods when it is mild. But it is far better than the last...

Thanks for the encouragement Kathi. The GI stuff is a bit better. I am going to talk to my doctor about Xanax. I am probably just being stubborn because I used to rely on Valium (not for long thank god) and benzos scare me. I agree about the meditation. I will have to find a peaseful area (my...

    Habituation Setback

Thanks Kathi. I need to get back into yoga. A number of my physical issues are limiting that, but I shouldn't let that stop me. Roller blading is another thing I used to like to do. I think if I pcik up again with some of this physical exercise, it will ease the anxiety, increase the dopamine...

    Habituation Setback

Months ago when I first joined the forum, I wrote how well habituation was working for me. Well, the last couple months, especially the last couple weeks, this has changed. Any dog walkers here?

OMG, don't wear earplugs! My dogs can jerk and catch so I am way off balance if I don't hear a skateboarder before he does. You need to be on your toes. I step on the leashes if I suspect a jarring, inconsiderate, jerk is coming. Can't always know for sure. But I have found that I can control...

    Frustrated!

When sudden noises, loud or not, occur expecially as I am going to sleep, it is like lightning through my brain. I have learned that I can get rid of this immediately through mind set and relaxation. Acceptance is so important for me. Still, it is jarring and unnerving at the moemnt...

Magnesium for Relief of Tinnitus Research

I totally agree about the chelated. It is why you should look carefully before buying either magnesium or espcially calcium (an even more impenetrable element) at the local drugstore. The expense is worth it. Like buying one durable, quality, $50 shirt that can be used 5 ways, rahter than...

Thanks John. This is a great forum. It's always good to know there is "a somewhere" to visit where others will know what we're experiencing. Thank you as well Jeff. Your post is the perfect add-on to mine. It sounds like your T is more intense than mine - I just barely hear it during the day, though it's there, due to other noise levels. So what you, the motivational speaker, do is to add emphasis and encourage those whose T is...

Tx Eric. IDK. Could be any of those things; I've been on meds since 2005. Also, it occurs to me that the tightness in my neck, shoulders and base of head, maybe higher, yahooee, could be a factor or even the cause. Typical tightness in fibro, so perhaps the relationship is there. I'm just...

    What Is This?

Now there's a thought. I love turmeric but could easily use it more often. I'm just so sloppy and turmeric stains. I have to wear an apron or I'll be wearing the food I'm preparing! Is It True That Some People's Tinnitus Go Away?
