    Yup, that's how I got my permanent spike. Thought to have it set at 30 to 40% but the soundcard was faulty and blasted my right ear at 90 DB supersonic level.

    It was more of an mild irritation than pain if the audiologist is careful. The foam is actually very soft and doesn't hurt the eardrum while protecting it from the mold from ripping it out while pulling the mold out.

    I'm already a year of healing where in the beginning, I had extreme buzzing in the brain plus loud ringing. Now I only get ringing if I watch too many movies and only annoyed by high volume engines making crickets in my ear.

    It may be the plugs forcing silence into your ears which it makes it worse. I do wear hearing aids and make it keep playing some noise always at low levels like rock music and pink noise. After a year, the loud clanging bells went down to a gentle hiss when low freqs are played.

    Don't think you need to get rid of them. Mine never goes above 60 db on the meter and still hear the rumbles. Also hooked a DRC to keep the real loud noise away like gunshots and deep bass.
