Cause of Tinnitus
Noise exposure from power tool
Hi, so I've had tinnitus for about 10-11 months now which was caused by acoustic trauma (using power tool with no ear protection). Just last Saturday I was volunteering for some "repair children's bikes" event and had a tire blow up near my right ear while I was inflating it. Immediately after that my panic rose to the max and I felt a fullness feeling in both ears, mainly my right, and muffled hearing. Of course, the ringing is worse now, and I'm feeling suicidal all over again. Today is Monday, and I went to the walk in clinic and asked for prednisone for this but they refused.

I'm wondering, has anyone else taken prednisone after a noise injury, and has it helped you? Trying to get opinions from experienced people before I go ask every walk in clinic in my area.

Did it help? Did you get any side effects? Was it worth it?

I don't know whether or not prednisone has helped me. It didn't have any side effects. I think the side effects are worth the increase in the probability that your T will fade. You can try going to the ER, or to other clinics. Perhaps you will get lucky at one of those clinics. The story I told to get prednisone in Canada was that I had to stop screaming fire alarm (and as a result had my T spiking).

Prednisone treatment after acoustic trauma has been discussed many, many times before. Perhaps do a search on that and you will find many discussion threads on it. Like anything, the result is usually varying. Some would have their T reduced on eliminated but others may not find a material improvement. Like Bill said, if the side effect is not too unbearable, it may be worth the try as your recent acoustic trauma is quite new.

Have you ever done an audiogram? DPOAE?
