I seem to have developed a bad case of tinnitus in my left ear. It came on very suddenly. It only happened a few days ago but I have discovered a half pint of neat whiskey before bedtime makes it go away allowing for a night's sleep. Not great for the health but better than a seriously loud whine keeping me awake all night.

      Hey :)

Some people get reduced tinnitus from alcohol. Guess you’re lucky :)

Did you do something loud the week before you got tinnitus?

      Or had a cold?

Congratulations @Damiancunt123. You've found your "treatment".

Hope it keeps working for you.

Just don't start using more than you are now, and try to keep the "dosage" the same each night (maybe even lower it, if you can).

I didn't do anything loud, my tinnitus seems to have come from nowhere. 15 minutes after waking up it's straight back again. I don't want to hit the bottle early so it's watch the clock til bedtime...

Alcohol lowers blood sugar. I would research that. Start monitoring your blood sugar and insulin levels and see if there is a metabolic imbalance and if it correlates with the tinnitus spikes.

If you make a habit of that, a half pint of neat whiskey before bedtime will make your liver go away, along with other things that you might want to keep.

I would really, really recommend looking for a different coping strategy that isn't quite as damaging to your health.

I noticed the same, several years ago I got silence when having a drop or two of rum - I'm on zero alcohol now though after 50 years of drinking the stuff - I now control my tinnitus by keeping stress down and good thoughts in meditation, be careful how much you get used to having...

As stated, be careful. I am 23 years sober and I am not going back to that nightmare, not for tinnitus, my cancers, the loss of my wife or any other reason. That's just me but I started off thinking I can quit anytime...

      All the best.
