APS - thick blood - can lead to tinnitus which may be reduced by blood thinners. The condition is picked up by a simple blood test.

I was thinking that this may be the reason some people's tinnitus decreases with alcohol.

Anyone else got APS? Did blood thinners help?

Hello! I have some antiphospholipid antibodies. My dad had the full-blown disease for over 25 years, but then it mysteriously went away. So, I seem to have a predisposition toward APS, though I do not have any major symptoms like bruising or clots. I do, however, have that strange corned beef–like skin appearance. For the record, I'm not on blood thinners.

I also have a form of somatic tinnitus. It's not just my jaw and head that modulate the sound—movement in other parts of my body does too. For example, as I type, I can feel the motion of my fingers reflected in the ringing.

I've noticed that when I'm drunk, I don't think about the tinnitus as much. So, maybe alcohol has some effect, but it's hard to say for sure because a) I'm drunk at the time and b) other factors, like stress and pain, also influence the intensity of the tinnitus.

Sorry I can't offer anything more helpful, but I came across this post about APS and felt like it was suddenly resurfacing. Not many people talk about it!
