Military acoustic sonar is loud.

Also the way they prospect for undersea oil beds is by driving ships around that have these hammer/piston things that clang out super loud noises to listen for the acoustic signature of an oil deposit.

Sound travels faster, farther, and louder underwater.

I wonder if this is giving sea mammals hearing damage and tinnitus, hence them randomly beaching themselves because they can't take it.

LOL...i don't know if a whale cares if it has T...but it's still a mammal and that is an interesting way to think about it.
