I've been dealing with a distressing level of tinnitus for about a year. My GP suggested I try Flonase nasal spray, which contains a corticosteroid. Initially, I experienced little to no improvement. However, after researching, I learned that if tinnitus is caused entirely or partly by Eustachian tube dysfunction, it is important to use a specific angle and method when spraying it in the nostril. This allows it to target the Eustachian tube opening at the back of the nose.
I tried this method at night, and the next day, my tinnitus was 90% gone for the entire day. I repeated this for two more nights, and it continued to work, but it stopped being effective after the third application. I suspected that a buildup of the doses might be preventing further absorption, so I started using a saline rinse each day, and that helped.
However, after the fifth dose, I began experiencing an extreme "downer" mood that would occur the following day. I stopped using Flonase, and the mood swings cleared. In later attempts with Flonase, the same mood changes would start after three to four doses. I have since learned that "mood swings" are listed as a "rare" side effect, so this may not affect everyone.
I wanted to share this in case anyone is considering trying it. Be sure to look up the proper application method for targeting the Eustachian tube; otherwise, it may not work. Good luck!
