- Noise / T worsened with antiobiotics
I think I need to vent a little so please bear with me. I was active in this forum for a while and decided to take a break. Now I'm back unfortunately. Just a quick background about my T, I've had it for over a decade now. It was originally noise-induced but was made worse from antibiotics, specifically Cipro and Augmentin.
I was diagnosed with an infection about a month ago and given antibiotics. I was very reluctant to take them at first because I was worried that they would worsen my T. I completed a week course of Omnicef and am happy to say that while my T did increase slightly, it's bearable and nowhere near as bad as I feared.
Almost immediately going off the Omnicef, I'm now worried that I may have a stomach ulcer based on my symptoms. I did some Googling and it appears that some people may have that as a side effect though it's not officially listed as one by the drug maker. If I do have an ulcer, the list and amount of antibiotics you need to take completely freaks me out. Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, Metronidazole and Tetracycline are all listed as possible meds to treat ulcers. On top of that Prilosec is also usually prescribed which also appears to be ototoxic.
From what I've read, it seems that T and hearing loss from Clarithromycin is temporary in many people and per Dr. Nagler, Tetracycline isn't ototoxic. Anyone here go through an ulcer or a brutal course of antibiotics and have worsening of their T?
I'm going to see if my stomach pain goes away in the next couple of days, and if not, I'll go to the doctor and hope for the best. I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario at this point. Vent over.
